Developers who intend to make apps for tablets other than the iPad can start making more precise plans about their futures immediately.  Google announced yesterday that it’s making a preview of the Android 3.0 SDK available.

Xavier Ducrohet wrote on the Android Developers Blog, “[W]e are releasing a preview of the Android 3.0 SDK, with non-final APIs and system image, to allow developers to start testing their existing applications on the tablet form-factor and begin getting familiar with the new UI patterns, APIs, and capabilities that will be available in Android 3.0.”

Highlights are supposed to include a UI interface designed with larger screens in mind, high-performance graphics, support for multicore processor architectures, and new types of multimedia, among other things.

Hopefully this will allow everyone here at DevWebPro who’s interested to get a head start on their tablet-specific apps.

Of course, it may not be long before Google effectively levels the playing field by releasing Android 3.0, and that should be an exciting time, too.
